“We cannot think of being acceptable to others until we have first proven acceptable to ourselves.”
Most of us undervalue ourselves – we either learned this behaviour, we have a negative image of our self-worth, or we think it is inappropriate to see ourselves as having or offering value. The exact opposite is true – it is absolutely vital to value yourself, and what is more, it will help you bring more valuable experiences into your life.
You teach others how to treat you, by what you accept, and by how we treat your self.
Are you dismissive of yourself? Do you treat yourself with the same respect that you treat others? When someone says “Thank you” to you, do you acknowledge it… or do you dismiss it as not necessary? Are you uncomfortable when someone thanks you or compliments you?
These are all clues as to how you treat yourself and the example you set to others, of how you deserve to be treated. Start slowly, appreciating compliments, accepting thanks – thank yourself some time! It is a very strange feeling saying “Thank me”, but it can be very effective.
“Sometimes the hardest part of the journey is believing you’re worthy of the trip.”
