Self confidence essentially means to trust and have faith in oneself. Confidence is one of the most attractive attributes we can have. When someone can stand tall despite the place or situation they are in, it gives off an amazing energy. Confidence is a combination of a number of factors, we all have a varying degree of each.
There is firstly our attitude, which is about our behaviour. It is about how we project our self. The attitude is in walking in the room with our head held high, smiling at people, and making eye contact.
Self confidence goes much deeper. It is a product of achievement and attitude, but that is just one part of it, and an external part at that. There is the inner element of self worth.
Our inner confidence is about who we are. It exudes out of us, no matter what situation we are in. Even when we are not in control of a situation, our self worth remains intact despite temporary doubts and fears. Our inner confidence is at the root of it all. It is what gives us that aura of self confidence.
Our self worth is our attitude toward our self. It is how we perceive our self, how we talk about our self, and how we represent our self. This perception eventually becomes a reality for us.
True self confidence is achieved by knowing yourself, your strengths, weaknesses, abilities and being comfortable with who you are. To get to a high level of awareness, you need to have had both achievements and failures in life.
Keep a notebook of your achievements. When you feel tempted to put yourself down and to bemoan that you are getting nowhere, make a cup of coffee and take out this book and read through it. Reminding yourself of your successes is a vital re-enforcement to your confidence.
