Self Approval

“Ignore the negative voice inside you. Focus on your strengths.”
Lailah Gifty Akita

None of us are immune to occasional toxic mood swings, but that does not mean we have to succumb to them. Whether the bad attitude is a common occurrence or just a sporadic phenomena, it is critical for our long-term happiness and success that we are able to recognise when we are thinking and acting poorly, and consciously shift our mindset.

When you catch yourself in a cycle of self-hate, remind yourself that you were not born feeling this way. That at some point in the past some person or experience sent you the message that something is wrong with you, and you internalised this and accepted it as your truth. But that opinion is not yours to carry, and those judgments are not about you.

In the same way that you learned to think negatively about yourself, you can begin to learn to think new, positive and self approving thoughts. You can learn to challenge those false beliefs, strip away their power, and reclaim your self respect. This requires you to identity the negative attitude, then start to change your mindset. And it begins when you decide that there has to be a better way to live, and that you deserve to discover it.

”You are wonderful. Valuable. Worthwhile. Lovable. Not because others think so. Self worth comes from only one place: self. ”
Karen Salmansohn
