Doubts And Fears

“Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt.”
William Shakespeare

I think most people struggle with some form of doubt… I certainly do. I believe that doubt is the number one killer of the human resolve.

The voice of doubt whispers in our ears and draws us into this dark hole. And we listen to it. Things like: You can’t do that, you don’t know how to do that, you don’t have it in you, keep quiet or you’ll get fired, rejected, disliked, disapproved of…….

This voice can come in as we are trying to take a new step in our careers, to form a new relationship, to launch a creative idea, to start a hobby that gives us joy, to let go of living in an environment where we feel stuck and unfulfilled, to ask for a raise, to ask for help – in any place where we want to expand into a new area.

Fear and self-doubt are two signs that we are moving forward out of our comfort zone and there is a part of us that pushes back. The part of us that just wants to freeze-up, sit on the couch and do nothing except watch other people pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

Sometimes all you need is a little reassurance, and your biggest fans are the people who do just that for you. People who tell you that you are awesome, just because……We all have them, nurture these relationships and draw strength and confidence from them.

It is easy to get lost in a sea of self-doubt when we forget to take care of our own needs… exercise regularly, getting enough sleep, and eating healthy food.

Keep a gratitude journal where you have one thing a day that you are thankful for. And remember, self-doubt is a sign that you are moving forward…keep pushing..

“When you doubt your power, you give power to your doubt.”

Honore de Balzac
