Your Identity

If someone isn’t what others want them to be, the others become angry. Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.”
Paulo Coelho

We all can suffer from self doubt. At these times it is all too easy to look to others for validation. It took me a long time not to judge myself through someone else’s eyes.

Remember the only person you need try to be better than is the person you were yesterday. Prove yourself to yourself, not others. You are good enough, smart enough and strong enough. You do not need other people to validate you; you are already valuable.

If someone says ‘no’ to you, or if someone says something negative about you, that does not change anything about you. The words and opinions of others have no real bearing on your worth. Certainly it can be helpful and desirable to make a good impression in certain situations, yet it is not the end of the world when you are faced with rejection.

It is great to receive positive feedback, but it simply does not always happen. That is okay though, because you know where you are heading and you know your true worth does not depend on the judgment of others.

When you set out to make a difference in your life, there will be those who disagree with you, those who ignore you, and those who flat out reject your ideas and efforts. Look beyond them, step confidently forward, do what must be done, and let them think what they will.

Determine your own identity and live the life that is most real to you. Rise to the challenge as you learn how to be yourself… standing tall and proud.

“We can spend our lives letting the world tell us who we are. Sane or insane. Saints or sex addicts. Heroes or victims. Letting history tell us how good or bad we are. Letting our past decide our future. Or we can decide for ourselves. And maybe it’s our job to invent something better.”
