Who You Really Are

“Outside, the ocean was crashing, waves hitting sand, then pulling back to sea. I thought of everything being washed away, again and again. We make such messes in this life, both accidentally and on purpose. But wiping the surface clean doesn’t really make anything neater. It just masks what is below. It’s only when you really dig down deep, go underground, that you can see who you really are.”
Sarah Dessen

It is all to easy in our busy lives to focus on others and to ignore ourselves. Stop for a second and ask yourself…… do you know yourself well? Are you clear about what you want in life? What defines you?

.
Examining our life under a microscope can be discomforting and an unpleasant exercise. I know, I have been through it. However, you will be grateful for starting the process of self discovery, because rewards unfold when you know more about yourself.

.
The process of self discovery is more than just about unearthing nasty stuff about yourself. It is also about valuing and using your strengths and abilities. About becoming more aware of what you are good at.

.
Ask yourself what you want out of life and create a plan of action towards it. Having a purpose that connects to your inner self is so fulfilling. Without a purpose and goals, we are like a ship, drifting along, directionless.

.
Ask yourself what matters to you, look at your personal values. Core values such as compassion, honesty, love, kindness, loyalty, etc. Clarifying our core values helps us see a picture of who we are.

.
To know a person, is to spend time with him or her. It is same to build a relationship with our self, we need to spend time getting to know more about our self. Put aside “me” time on a regular basis. For myself, I choose to spend “me” time reading books, in my garden or simply connecting with nature.

.
Self discovery is more than a one-day or a one-week affair. It takes a lifetime of building a relationship with yourself. Begin today to get a better understanding of yourself and see who you really are. What lights your fire?

.
“Don’t let a day go by without asking who you are…each time you let a new ingredient to enter your awareness.”
Deepak Chopra,
