A Better Version Of Yourself

“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”

Ernest Hemingway

We all do it or have done it at some point in our lives: we compare ourselves to others and gauge where we are based on what we observe.

If this was simply an observation, that would be one thing, but in comparing ourselves to others, we often end up judging ourselves.  There is no harsher judge!

The thing about comparing is that there is never a win. How often do we compare ourselves with someone less fortunate than us and consider ourselves blessed? More often, we compare ourselves with someone who we perceive as being better, having more or doing more.

Comparing yourself is at the back of your biggest insecurities, from not feeling good enough to resenting the success of others. It sets you up for mediocrity rather than real success, it drains you of your real inner power and it neutralizes the creative power of your own thoughts.

Building your self worth based on your own definition of success and developing a solid self esteem will free you to stop comparing yourself to others once and for all.

It is human nature to compare. It is far better to simply redirect the comparison, compare yourself to a past and a present you – and keep the comparison within.

So, when you catch yourself comparing yourself to another, stop for a moment and re-direct the thought. It is far more useful to ask yourself these questions. What was I doing today that I could not have done 5, 3 or even 1 year ago? What have I stopped doing in the last year that I might have found inconceivable before?

Remember that your life is explicitly designed for your own growth. Every person you meet, every situation you encounter, challenges you to become a stronger, more loving, and confident person. Try to appreciate the benefit of both the struggles and the joys that come your way.

At any point in your life, every day you have a new opportunity to be a better person than who you were yesterday. When you pay attention to those opportunities and make the most of them, your reward will be a life of amazing growth and accomplishment……..

Make today the day you begin to focus on becoming a better you

“No matter who you are, no matter what you did, no matter where you’ve come from, you can always change, become a better version of yourself.”
