Matters Of The Heart

“The heart has its reasons which reason knows not.”
Blaise Pascal

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of the Tibet, was speaking at a Well Being conference when someone from the audience asked him why he did not fight back against the Chinese. He simply smiled and said, “Well, war is obsolete, you know.” After a few moments he added, “The mind can rationalise fighting back, but the heart… the heart would never understand. If you fight, then you yourself would be divided (the heart and the mind), and then the war would be inside you.

I believe that if you cannot put your whole heart into something, it is better to take yourself from the situation and find something you can love.

Ultimately, you can never find peace until you learn to let go of the hatred and hurt that lives in your heart.

Start by noticing what your heart actually feels like. My favourite way to reconnect with my heart is by practicing gratitude. Try being thankful for something in your life right now and notice how it feels… may feel a expanding or uplifting feeling inside. It may be subtle at first, but with practice, your heart will become loud and clear.

Take time to notice what your heart is telling you today.

“When the heart speaks, the mind finds it indecent to object.”
Milan Kundera.
