The Victim

So many people let themselves slip into thinking of themselves as victims that have little or no control over their lives. In this mindset you feel sorry for yourself, the world seems to be against you and you get stuck. Little to no action is taken and you get lost in a sea of sadness and self pity.

Yet we do this because when we feel like the victim it males everyone else – or just someone else – wrong and we are right then that can lead to pleasurable feelings. Taking responsibility for our own life can be hard work, we have to make difficult decisions and it is just heavy sometimes. In the short term it can feel like the easier choice to not take personal responsibility.

I know from my own experience the main reason people so often have self esteem problems is that they do not take responsibility for their own lives. Instead someone else is blamed for the bad things that happen and a victim mentality is created.

When I feel that I am putting myself in victim role I like to ask myself this question: Does someone have it worse on the world?”

The answer may not result in positive thoughts, but it can quickly snap you of a somewhat childish ‘poor, poor me…’. It makes you realise that you have much to be grateful for in life.This question changes your perspective from a narrow, self-centered one into a much wider one. It helps you to lighten up about your situation.
With a changed perspective ask another question like:;“What is the hidden opportunity within this situation?

That is very helpful to keep your focusing on how to solve a problem or get something good out a current situation. Rather than asking yourself “why?” over and over and thereby focusing on making yourself feel worse and worse. Focus on making small changes towards a better future.

Stop acting the victim and blaming people and fate for the negative things that have happened to you. Instead, use your power to turn things around by taking life in stride and acting in ways that will keep you going in a more positive track.


Focus on ways to strengthen your self belief. It can all begin by taking responsibility to improve yourself….be the victor in your own life
