For Success

Excuses, criticisms, and superstitions are vitamins for haters, but poison for the successful. Rise above!”
Steve Maraboli

If we want to succeed, we need to set goals. Without goals we lack focus and direction. Goal setting not only allows you to take control of your life’s direction; it also provides you a benchmark for determining whether you are actually succeeding. Set you goals, but remember to take your vitamins:

Vitamin A for Action
What are two to three action steps that you can take this week to get closer to the completion of each of your goals?

Vitamin B for Belief
Remember that one glorious night not too long ago when you were pumped full of champagne and big ideas? You promised yourself that this would be the year you accomplish <insert goal here>, and you resolved to make it happen. And then you shouted something inaudible above the crowd to your friends, kissed a random stranger and then danced the night away. Yep, that night. You believed you could. Belief in yourself is most vital..

Vitamin C for Confidence
Your ability to identify your limiting step is one of the best I have learned three important ideas for building self confidence. Firstly, accept complete responsibility for yourself and for everything that you are and ever will be. Second, accept that you can change your situation only by going to work on yourself and learning the things you need to know to be better. Third, setting goals with time lines for the things you want and then work every day to bring those goals into reality.

Vitamin D for Discipline
The only way to improve your self discipline is through intentional and dedicated practice. No one wakes up one day suddenly blessed with self-discipline. Instead, you need a strategy. Whether you want to increase good habits – like exercising more often, or you want to eliminate bad habits – like watching too much TV.

Vitamin E for Enthusiasm
Enthusiasm is absolutely necessary if you ever want to accomplish anything of value. You need a larger-than-life excitement in whatever it is that you are doing for it to be successful. Whatever it is that you want to build enthusiasm for, make sure that you are proud of it. Talk about it with your peers, discuss it with your friends, and mention it to your family. Pride is very important to create lasting enthusiasm, as anything that is worth being proud of, is worth having enthusiasm for. Talking about anything that you are proud of builds a terrific excitement that only helps in the continuation of it in a positive direction.

Remember, success, as with most things, starts with attitude. A daily dose of positive thinking always helps.

“Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.”
Louisa May Alcott
