Moving Forward

“Rehashing the past wouldn’t change anything. Time to move forward.”
Zena Wynn

It is easy to get stuck in a rut and even if we want to move forward with your life, we may not know where to start. Before we can gain any momentum, we need to first understand which behaviours we need to stop and which we need to start doing. Once we gain an understanding of this, we can begin taking the first few steps forward into a better tomorrow.

Regret, guilt, and fixation on the bad things that happened in our past can prevent us from moving forward in the present and into the future. It is important to remember that you can no longer control the past, but you can prevent the past from controlling you.

Commit to stop procrastinating. We have an indefinite number of “tomorrows” to deal with, and telling our self that we will start doing something “tomorrow” can quickly become a habit. Stop putting things off and start doing them immediately.

Learn from your past, appreciate your present, and focus on your future. Thinking ahead to the life you want will give you something to pursue, and having something to pursue makes it easier to walk forward.

Concentrate on one definite goal and aim high. A definite goal broken down into small steps. Focusing on one goal at a time is important, try to challenge yourself and make the most out of your abilities.

Try something new. A good way is to change your daily routine and move yourself out of your rut by trying something you have never done before. The change can be something that interests you and lies outside of your usual comfort zone.

And most importantly, believe in yourself. Be confident and be courageous. Think about who you want to be, and reassure yourself that you already possess the basic qualifications you need to become that person.

Do something. Take that first step. A calculated first step, not a giant leap into the deep end. And then take another one, ..and another one ..and another one.

Take that first step to begin unsticking yourself today.

“Be Brave and Take Risks: You need to have faith in yourself. Be brave and take risks. You don’t have to have it all figured out to move forward.”
Roy T. Bennett
