People are generally happier when they are living a life of meaning. And while we may not want to cast off all of our worldly possessions in search of the true meaning of life, we can get involved in a cause that is important to us with minimal time, effort or cost. While we will be helping others, we will truly receive more than we give. When we make someone happy, we become happy, and then people try to make us happy.

The feeling of not having enough freedom to pursue quality time with our friends and family, revitalising solitary activities, or other things that nurture us can leave us feeling stressed and unhappy.
