Dear Self

15-quotes-to-inspire-self-love-12

.
“You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.”
Buddha

.
Self-love is important to living well. Self-love is a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth.

.
When we act in ways that develop our self-love we begin to accept much better our weaknesses as well as our strengths, have less need to explain away our short-comings, have compassion for ourselves as human beings struggling to find personal meaning.

.
The steps that I take  to nurture my self love include:

.
Practicing good self-care. You will love yourself more, when you take better care of your basic needs. People high in self-love nourish themselves daily through healthy activities, eating healthy fresh foods, exercise, good sleep and positive social interactions.

.
Set boundaries. You will love yourself more when you set limits or say no to work, love, or activities that deplete or harm you physically, emotionally and spiritually, or express negatively about who you are.

.
As humans we can be so hard on ourselves. The downside of taking responsibility for our actions is punishing ourselves too much for mistakes in learning and growing. You have to accept your ‘humanness’ (the fact that you are not perfect), before you can truly love yourself. Practice being less hard on yourself when you make a mistake. Remember, there are no failures, if you have learned and grown from your mistakes; there are only lessons learned.

.
If you choose just one or two of these self-love actions to work on, you will begin to accept and love yourself more. When your opinion of yourself goes up you stop trying to get so much validation and attention from other people. You become less needy and feel more deserving of good things in life. You self-sabotage less and go after what you deep down want with more motivation and focus than ever before.

.
Take time to nurture your well being today.

.
‘Our self-respect tracks our choices. Every time we act in harmony with our authentic self and our heart, we earn our respect. It is that simple. Every choice matters.”
Dan Coppersmith
