Reaching Out

Man hand hold something isolated on white

“We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men; and among those fibers, as sympathetic threads, our actions run as causes, and they come back to us as effects.”
Herman Melville

We all live busy lives, routines and obligations that fill our time. It is all too easy to be so self absorbed that we miss those opportunities to connect to others.

Yet we shine when we share a smile with another. We shine when we gently touch someone with a pat on the shoulder. We shine when we ask someone how they are today. We shine when we stop and pause to help someone by holding a door. We shine when we give someone a hug or wipe away a tear.

So often, it is the small things that allow us to connect with others and have the greatest impact.

Even when you feel tired. Even when life events have dulled your heart. Even when you think you have nothing to give because of your past. You can reach out and touch the hearts of those around you.

Look for opportunities today, remember the small things can give the most. Pause and consider how you may reach out  to others today.

Do stuff. be clenched, curious. Not waiting for inspiration’s shove or society’s kiss on your forehead. Pay attention. It’s all about paying attention. attention is vitality. It connects you with others. It makes you eager. stay eager.”
 Susan Sontag
