Peace Within

“We don’t realize that, somewhere within us all, there does exist a supreme self who is eternally at peace.”
Elizabeth Gilbert

Finding peace within is a wonderful but also a difficult thing. It is easy to go looking for it in the wrong places.
By trying to push away the bad stuff or change it into better stuff, we are forever judging this moment as not good enough and therefore postponing our happiness. Whenever there is judgement or resistance we cannot be at peace with ourselves.

Not knowing any better, I followed this approach for many years. It is a never ending path. If we focus on finding things to fix we will endlessly discover more. And when is the point reached when you think ‘OK, that is me done… now I can be happy?’ Finding inner peace involves giving up searching and deciding to be content now.

I discovered a much simpler way of finding inner peace, right here, right now, in any moment and it involves awareness.

Inner peace comes from self-acceptance. When you accept what is you stop feeding energy into resisting what is. You do not make a problem more powerful and prominent in your mind. Instead, somewhat counter intuitively, when you accept what is it loses much of its power.

And you feel stillness inside. Now, accepting what is does not mean you give up. It just means that you put yourself in a better position take action were you need to. Because now you can see more clearly, you can focus your energy towards what you want, what is important to you, then taking the appropriate action to change your situation.

By accepting what is it is much easier to let go of things and to forgive what has happened……when you do what you enjoy there is a natural peace that arises within. You are in alignment with your outer world. This also lets you focus on making your life a success, rather than being distracted by your inner turmoil.

Inner Peace can be as simple as letting go, and resting under the shade of an old tree……The path taken to find inner peace is as hard or simple as you makes the journey of self acceptance to be.

Find calm in your heart, find peace today.

“We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves.”
Dalai Lama XIV
