To Let It Be

“The reason many people in our society are miserable, sick, and highly stressed is because of an unhealthy attachment to things they have no control over.”
Steve Maraboli

Many of us hold onto control for dear life. We attach ourselves to outcomes, push for things to happen the way we want them to go, and try to run the show.

.

There are also some who are controlling because they need power or feel entitled and expect the world to go their way, for most controlling people it is all about anxiety.

.

Yet the need for control destroys our sense of well-being and can negatively affects our relationships. This fear-based behaviour comes from our need for stability, security and predictability in our lives, especially when we are faced with key things such as earning a living, being in a relationship, or taking care of our physical needs.

.

We try to control things because of what we think will happen if we do not, or being attached to an outcome we think is best for us.

.
The more we micromanage everyone or everything around us, the more likely we feel insecure and out of control within ourselves. This is a sign that signals us that our pattern of control is operating.

.
Another sign is the obsessive need for a certain outcome, grievance, or position. Other signs are the urgent need to defend ourselves, be right, or blame someone. Moreover, our need for control usually surfaces in situations where we feel pain, fear or discomfort.

.
When we let go of the need to control, we find an unlimited source of energy and creativity. By changing our pattern of control, we can enjoy the experience, see it from a new point of view and trust that it is giving us new information about ourselves and our life’s journey.

.
When you try to control someone else or events beyond the scope of our power, you lose. When you learn to see the difference between what you can change and what you can not, usually have an easier time expressing your power in your life. Because you are not wasting all your energy using your power to change things you can’t, we have a lot of energy left over to live your life.

.
Live is to be lived, not controlled……live your life to the full and enjoy the moment as it unfolds today.

.
“Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over instead of craving control over what you don’t.”
Steve Maraboli
