Past Mistakes

“We all make mistakes, have struggles, and even regret things in our past. But you are not your mistakes, you are not your struggles, and you are here NOW with the power to shape your day and your future.”
Steve Maraboli

We all have something stored in our memory banks of the past that we wish we could have done differently, or something we wish we did not do.

Each day we learn and grow. But that does not mean we have to regret what we did before we learned how to do things differently. If we did not go through those experiences we might not have grown into the strong and knowledgeable people we are today.

So what I am suggesting is that we get rid of the negative thoughts – the could have’s, might have’s, and should have’s – and start living a life that will not make us feel regretful. Not even at an older, wiser age! When we realise that it is okay to make mistakes. Just make sure to learn from your past mistakes, forgive yourself and move on.

Regrets can be like a loss – you let something happen and you can never go back and change it. It is a lost opportunity. As such, allow yourself to express grief. Morn your mistake, then chalk it up to a learning experience.

Decide today to begin to live without regret. Do not wait for tomorrow, next week, or the new year. It is in our daily experiences that we discover who we are and what we can become. Own your own destiny and become who you want to be.

When we feel regret, we re-live guilt, sadness or anger over and over again. Allowing ourselves to experience these feelings fully with the intention of moving forward can help you stop revisiting them.

I love the words of J.R.R. TolkienThe greatest adventure is what lies ahead. Today and tomorrow are yet to be said. The chances, the changes are all yours to make. The mold of your life is in your hands to break.”

When you find yourself thinking of the regret, turn your thoughts to the things you have learned and the opportunities that are now yours. Use the lessons and experience to take yourself forward….starting today.

“Many times what we perceive as an error or failure is actually a gift. And eventually we find that lessons learned from that discouraging experience prove to be of great worth.”
Richelle E. Goodrich
