Enjoying Life

You were given life; it is your duty (and also your entitlement as a human being) to find something beautiful within life, no matter how slight.”
Elizabeth Gilbert

Life can be inestimable if we open our eyes to it. It is just that by the time most of us catch up to appreciating what we have, we have already squandered our time and left life at least halfway behind us.

No matter how good or bad you think you have it, wake up each day thankful for your life. Instead of thinking about what you have missing, think about what you have that everyone else is missing. Think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive in your own shoes – to think another idea, to enjoy a new moment, to have options, to have another chance– go out and make the day account.

Enjoying life is often thought to be a mindset, the result of reflection, action and gratitude.  And while most of us lack enough free time to escape to some sanctuary to follow our bliss, the best way to find happiness is to make practical, everyday changes. Together with conscious choices to appreciate the people in your life and making space to do the things you are best at, small changes to your life soon add up to greater enjoyment in life.

Choose to savour the simple things. Having a walk outside on a sunny day and enjoying a really good cup of coffee. Sometimes, it is the simple things that make the biggest difference in your day. Do not let them slip away without acknowledging them. Savour and delight in the simple things in your day, soaking up all the happiness they bring you.

”Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don’t wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it’s at work or with your family. Every minute should be savoured.”
Lord Nightingale
