Taking The Handbrake Off

‘Low self-confidence isn’t a life sentence. Self-confidence can be learned, practiced, and mastered–just like any other skill. Once you master it, everything in your life will change for the better.”
Barrie Davenport

Self confidence is extremely important in almost every aspect of our lives, yet so many people struggle to find it. Sadly, this can be a vicious circle: people who lack self confidence can find it difficult to become successful.

Your level of self confidence can show in many ways: your behaviour, your body language, how you speak, what you say, and so on.

But by taking concrete actions that improve your competence and your self-image you will increase your self confidence, without the help of anyone else.

Think positive. One of the things I have learned over the past years is to replace negative thoughts with positive ones. You learn to become more aware of your self-talk, the thoughts you have about yourself and what you are doing. After learning to recognise any negative self talk, I used a method that has helped me a lot…. I imagined that the negative thought was a ‘bug’, and I would be on the lookout for these ‘bugs’. When I found myself thinking negatively I would squash it (mentally of course). Then replace it with a positive thought. “C’mon, I can do this! Look how far you have come!”

Act positive. More than just thinking positive, you need to put it into action. Action is the key to developing self confidence. It is one thing to learn to think positive, but when you start acting on it, you change yourself ….one action at a time. You are what you do, and so if you change what you do, you change what you are.

Act in a positive way, take action instead of telling yourself you can’t, learning along the way. Talk to people in a positive way, put energy into your actions.

You are essentially who you create yourself to be and your life is a result of your actions. Take the hand break off your.life! Begin today.…you will soon start to see a difference.

”The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on, or blame. The gift is yours – it is an amazing journey – and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.”
