Stretching Yourself

“And to those who believe that adventures are dangerous, I say try routine: it kills you far more quickly.”
Paulo Coelho

So many of us complain about the boring repetition involved in our daily routines, yet we choose no clear course for alteration. We want to change something, but we never think the time is right. Why? Because the very cause of our boredom also provides a solid foundation of comfort. We are comfortable with our current surroundings. Moving off the known track could be risky, and we are subconsciously afraid of what might happen if we do.

So, what happens when we stick to the current track? Nothing. You jog along the same circular track at a steady pace daily. You pass by the same mile marker at the exact moment you did yesterday, and the day before, and the week before that. You are  comfortable because you already know the what that lies ahead. But you stagnate.

If something makes you a little nervous and uncomfortable, it means you are growing. All great opportunities in life will force you to grow emotionally and intellectually. They force you to stretch yourself and your comfort zone, which means you will not feel totally comfortable at first. And when you do not feel comfortable, you will likely decide the time is not right to change. Even though it is just what you need.

Commit to yourself to doing something different  today…..expand your comfort zone and grow yourself.

True success is achieved by stretching oneself, learning to feel comfortable being uncomfortable.”
Ken Poirot
