‘‘It’s the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen. ”
John Wooden
It is fairly easy to remember to be grateful for the big and obvious things that happen – a new addition to the family, a great promotion at work, a significant business breakthrough, etc. But the happiest people find ways to give thanks for the little things too. Ponder these perspective-shifting points :
You are alive.
You did not go to sleep hungry last night.
You did not go to sleep outside.
You had a choice of what clothes to wear this morning.
You know someone who loves you.
You have access to clean drinking water.
You have access to medical care.
You have access to the Internet.
You can read.
.
Be honest: when was the last time you were grateful for simply being alive, or going to sleep with a full stomach? More specifically, think of all the little things you experience …..That smell of coffee brewing in the morning, crawling into bed with freshly clean sheets, a warm hug from a loved one, that first, perfect bite of pasta…
.
Truly, the richest human is not the one who has the most, but the one who needs less. Wealth is a mindset. Want less and appreciate more today. And remember, the best time to focus on being grateful is when you do not feel like it. Because that is when doing so can make the biggest difference.
.
Appreciating what you have will make everything in your life seem that much bigger. People often say that when you wake up in the morning, say five things your grateful for to yourself. By doing this, it will make all of the bad things, obstacles, or difficulties in your life not seem as bad. Looking at the greatness in your life, no matter how small, can truly make you feel more upbeat, fulfilled, and happy.
Pay attention, and be grateful for the hidden joys all around you today. They are always those little things in life that make a big difference ……
“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.”
Robert Brault
