A Friend

You can be the most beautiful person in the world and everybody sees light and rainbows when they look at you, but if you yourself don’t know it, all of that doesn’t even matter. Every second that you spend on doubting your worth, every moment that you use to criticize yourself; is a second of your life wasted, is a moment of your life thrown away. It’s not like you have forever, so don’t waste any of your seconds, don’t throw even one of your moments away.”

Understanding the power of your attitude toward yourself and views about yourself is vital. How you perceive yourself, how you talk about yourself, and how you represent yourself eventually become the reality for you. And if it happens that you are putting yourself down, belittling your worth, and making light of your talents in the face of others, then you will come across as self-effacing, low in self-esteem, and almost a part of the wallpaper. This is not humility, its self denial and an attempt to lessen your presence.

.

On the other hand, if you exaggerate your qualities, talents, and skills, you come across as egotistical and arrogant but oddly enough; this is not about over-estimating your self-worth but about deceiving yourself through insecurity.

.

There is a midway and it is the one in which you recognise and celebrate the fact that you are a valuable person, equal to everyone else, and that your talents and thoughts are unique and worthy. Getting to this belief can be difficult if you have spent years underestimating your worth but it is always possible to change your thoughts and to learn to value yourself.

.

Instead of measuring your worth based on another person’s scale, concentrate on what is meaningful to you, whether that is being balanced, being a kind person, or living a faith tradition. Make your own standards.…They will matter to you longer than those of anyone else.

.
Regardless of where you are in life, it is important to remember that the quest for self value never ends. After all, it is the best thing you can do to honour yourself and your invaluable, unique person.

.

Work on being in love with the person in the mirror who has been through so much but is till standing. How much do you really value yourself?

.

“Never forget that once upon a time, in an unguarded moment, you recognized yourself as a friend.”
