“There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.”
Aldous Huxley
We live in an “aspiration” driven society. Aspiration and ambition are good things but they can often drive people to dissatisfaction.
When we choose “have” versus “be”, we can set our self up for disappointment and frustration. No matter how much nicer car or bigger house we will buy, there will always be some better ones we could have and don’t. It is the famous “grass is greener” phenomena.
If we shift our focus and perspective, and choose to look at inspiration instead, we will have a garden of discoveries available to us. We are inspired by different things in different circumstances. We are what we are by essence, for sure. But each day we grow into a different person, depending on what experiences we have. What we do counts. How we do it, even more so. What we eat, what we read, what we listen to, but also how we look around. The way we listen and observe and learn. The people we interact with.
In nature, a plant will flower earlier and more profusely, depending on what nourishment it will receive. We are the gardener responsible of our own ‘flowering’. The best part of gardening your self is that it is the most creative, rewarding task you can imagine.
“No matter who you are, no matter what you did, no matter where you’ve come from, you can always change, become a better version of yourself.”
Madonna
